Take a moment out to help a little one
Whose chances were as slim as midnight shining sun
Or soldiers helpless facing firing Lewis guns
Whose mothers cry for Providence to save their sons
For a second stop and see
Be the Providence they need
Transcend dimensions for free
Newton’s third law escapee
Each equal opposite the apogee of grace
Goes to the god and creature at that time and place
Persist and never think that there’s an end to space
Or reason not to stop and stoop and slow your pace
And as you go out of your way
With kindness let another day
Live a creature foundered may
It could speak to you would say
“Thank you friend if not for you
A Capulet or Montague
Like Wellington at Waterloo
Providence to me are you”
When the day will come and surely come it will
The cost to keep your wheels rolling up the hill
You must take your turn to ask your cup to fill
From dying in the dirt you’ll want yourself to kill
To care for someone else’s needs
Is truly free from vanity
Selflessness in word and deed
Generous and void of greed
Of course the formulae for Providence are vague
And nuanced at the best of times upon life’s stage
But choose a part to play that gives you as you age
The grace to give and give always and then your wage
Will be the providence you gave
To be a god unseen offstage
No audience to give you praise
For being the Providence that saves
That picked that creature from the grave
A life so delicate you saved
To nemesis you could have waved
But Love you ushered to your days
That lie ahead and when your time will come to die
I trust the Providence you were to little lives
Will seek you out and find you on your final night
Will stop and stoop and scoop you in the hand of Life
Nemesis or Providence
Use your bloody common sense
Grace turns out the best defence
You gained a pound and spent one pence
You knew that it was you lay helpless on the path
Although not out of fear of nemesis’ wrath
You saw the likely horror in the aftermath
And lent the helping hand of Providence Empath
Love and hate the twins of fate
One chooses us and cannot wait
All depending on that date
You stopped to help without debate
An act can magnify in planes
Not disclosed by thinking trains
Of matters threatening to the sane
Who conform to their hearts and brains
And if you go before I get the chance to be
A giant in the spirit world and you can see
Me needing help please stop and go upon your knee
And cup me in your hands be Providence to me
And like Divine help comes to me
Quench my thirst when I’m thirsty
Animals know what I mean
When fleeing Fate’s cruel destiny
When Providence will deal to you the same as you
The very choice you made to help the helpless through
Then knowing what you chose but then you always knew
That all along back then the moment brought to you
Landing right upon your plate
The guarantee of Saving Grace
Sometimes Chance and sometimes Fate
Is how Life unwinds in this place
Each time each one came to you
Appearing as a door or two
To stand and stare or walk into
And love was what you chose to do
It was you who lay there in that bitter sand
Counting down your breaths before a mortal man
Stopped and stooped and made a detour from his plan
And for a minute of his time he lent his hand
